Your Skype for Business Account
Please note that Skype for Business is a different product from Skype. If you have a Skype account, it is not connected to Skype for Business (part of Office365). You will not be able to use Skype for your meeting with your advisor, and will need to use Skype for Business.
However, even if you do not have a Skype for Business or Office365 account, you can still accept meeting invitations from your advisor, and meet using the instructions below.
Should you meet with your advisor virtually, your advisor will send you an invite to the meeting. We suggest accepting the meeting , which will add the meeting to your calendar.
Current students can access their calendar using the Apps Launcher in their student email.
There are 2 supported ways to join the meeting in Skype for Business:
Skype Meetings App (preferred method).
If you join the meeting using your desktop or laptop computer, please open the meeting using the Skype for Business Web App, also called the Skype Meetings App (web).
1. Join the meeting from the meeting invite email or from your calendar.

2. If prompted, please choose the option Skype for Business Web App.
3. If you have not downloaded the meeting app yet, a download should start. Open and Run the downloaded file to start the meeting.
Don't have a microphone for your computer?
4a. The audio (microphone and speakers) for the meeting will default to using your computer's audio equipment. If needed, you can call into the meeting from your phone instead of using the audio from your computer.
4b. Make sure to use the dial in number, and then the conference ID when prompted.
Skype for Business Mobile App
This mobile app will only allow sign in for Office365 accounts. For active students, you can use your student email account. This method does not work with outside (non-university or non-Office365) email accounts.
There is a mobile app for Skype for Business available in App Store and Google Play Store. If you are meeting with your advisor using your mobile device, you will have to open the meeting using the mobile application. We suggest downloading this app ahead of time. You can use your email address and password to sign into the app.
Note: You will not be able to share your screen (sometimes needed in a meeting with your advisor) using the mobile app.
1. Use the Meetings button to see your scheduled meetings.
